Royalex is an ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) laminate with a core expanded, closed-cell foam. This tough, lightweight laminated sheet imparts stiffness, resilience and superior shock absorption. It resists water absorption and adds a substantial measure of buoyancy and insulation. The material composite provides strength, high impact and fatigue resistance. The surface ply, also refered to as the skin, gives color, texture, strength and improved abrasion resistance over previous designs.

Royalex will not rust and resists most chemicals, oils and greases. The sheet is laminated to order, so its actual physical properties are tailored to specifications.
